Permintaan terhadap produk organik di Indonesia terus meningkat seiring kesadaran konsumen akan kesehatan dan lingkungan. Namun, sertifikasi organik di Indonesia menghadapi tantangan besar karena proses yang sulit dan biaya yang cukup mahal. Sertifikasi oleh pihak ke tiga memerlukan biaya yang mahal dimana hal ini menjadi kendala bagi petani kecil. Akibatnya, banyak petani yang tidak mampu memperoleh sertifikasi dan memilih cara alternatif untuk meyakinkan konsumen tentang keaslian produk organik mereka. Seringkali harga yang ditetapkan untuk produk pertanian organik dihargai sama dengan produk pertanian konvensional jika  produk tidak memiliki sertifikasi organik.
